PubStock for Publishers & Distributors
|
What is PubStock?
PubStock is BookManager's price and availability service that includes current prices and stock levels for the majority of publishers and distributors that supply to the Canadian book market. Booksellers and the like use PubStock to find sources for books, prices, to help build bigger orders, and to call customer service less. Anyone using this site is permitted to make a limited number of free PubStock inquiries by entering either the ISBN or keywords into the "Search for Books" search box. Those who need the service on a regular basis need to purchase an annual subscription to PubStock for $210 per year.
Note: In addition to online PubStock lookups, Bookstores using the BookManager Software in their store can choose to schedule regular downloads of a complete PubStock file. This file is updated every four hours. The BookManager software integrates PubStock data with the bookseller's own inventory files so that they can instantly display prices and sources for ISBNs.
Companies that distribute books to the Canadian book market are encouraged to list their active ISBNs with us. We charge a semi-annual fee for participation, which is generally based on the number of ISBNs submitted. We have standard ISBN file format specifications, and in some cases we are able to accept a custom format that you may already have in place. When you participate, you are also able to view consolidated independent bookstores sales data for your ISBNs! Please contact us to learn more.

Stock levels
Daily onhand/onorder reports are sent by over 230 independent Canadian bookstores. Check how each of your books are being stocked and ordered through an easily viewed display integrated with your monthly/sales breakdown. |

Questions frequently asked by publishers
Why do some ISBNs have no titles?
We are working to provide bibliographic data on as many PubStock ISBNs as possible. To provide further value for your booksellers, you can supply us with the following forms of title information:
- ONIX
- Booknet Spreadsheet
- Our minimum specifications
Your bibliographic data is then used in whole or in part to populate our master title file (TitleLink). We are also looking for enhanced content including cover images, book descriptions, reviews, author bios, and any other media (i.e. video, audio etc.)
How often do I send new data?
To receive the most benefit from PubStock, you need to send us a new file at least every time significant changes occur in your stock position. If your system can be automated to send us data, we prefer daily updates. The PubStock listing is updated the moment you send data and is date-stamped. We strongly urge you to send data at regular intervals because booksellers are able to see the last time that your data was updated. The older the data is the less it will appear to be reliable.
How do I prevent others from seeing my actual inventory count?
You need only supply us with actual inventory levels if you are comfortable with that (i.e. wholesalers generally send true counts). Otherwise, you supply a Yes or No (i.e. I do or don't have stock at the moment). The on order information is equally important for titles you are waiting to supply. We have several indicators that identify the status of your out of stock inventory (i.e. NYR, NYP, RP).
|
What do I do with the titles that I distribute, but do not have in stock or on order?
It is important to understand that if you do not provide us with an ISBN that you can supply stock for, then booksellers may not consider ordering from you at all. For these titles we have special indicators; ITO (it may take a few weeks) or Qwk (we can get it within a week). These ISBNs are listed on PubStock at a reduced cost to you.
What do I do with titles I no longer carry?
Please do not send us ISBNs for titles you can no longer supply. PubStock is not for out-of-print titles. One important benefit from PubStock is the instant notification for agency changes. When you add or drop a line of books, PubStock will immediately alert your customers to that fact.
Help us build a stronger, more profitable bookselling industry. In addition to helping your customers, you should see a dramatic reduction in the number of routine customer service telephone calls that request price and availability.
